Crazylegs (Don) and Jim stopped in Lansing Friday night on their way to Silver Lake, spending the night at a hotel and having dinner with Deanna and me. First thing Saturday we're on our way. Roger's in my 2nd Pilot and Don has his Pilot. Jim's riding a 400 Suzuki. Pilotman (Craig) is there with some quad riders, and The Shifter (Tom) and Jan are there with their buggies. I also met Odyfever. He's new over on hoser's board. He has a 250 that's almost done. The sand is pretty wet, but the wind is blowing hard, so it's drying in spots. The crowd is surprisindly large for this time of year, not packed or anything like that, but the parking lot was about half full. PICTURE: Roger giving Crazylegs a hand with refueling. |

We always seemed to trickle out to the dunes, never getting everyone together for one big ride. Roger and I rode a bit with Don and Jim, but not as much as I wanted to. At one point, I get separated , and pull up on top of a hill, looking for them, and see Tom and Jan down in the cat and mouse area. Off I go! They are FAST! I clip something and knock my right rear tire of the bead before they knew I was with them. Limp back, take the tire up to Dune Land, and I'm back in business. PICTURE: Crazylegs's friend Jim |

Tom comes over to tell us he got together with someone and tore up his wheel. HE heads over to Dune Land, and he's back in business. Jan was unable to get his new rear sprocket, so he's WAY over geared. He was going quite well as it was, so when he gets that dialed in, he has even more speed in store. PICTURE: Jim's Suzuki |

I hook up with Tom and Jan for another blast through the tight stuff, and realize how fast Tom and The Beast really are. If we are on the really tight trails, and I drive perfectly, and I mean perfectly, I can keep him in sight. If I make a tiny mistake, or if the trail opens up, bye bye! And he still has some suspension tuning to do! AWESOME! Look out, Litespeed! PICTURE: Jim and Crazylegs get ready for their first ride. |

Craig was having unusual jetting readings, so he put his Pilot away to be safe. Don really liked his first trip to Silver Lake. He got a bunch of seat time, which was what he was after. And he kept the rubber side down, until I left, at least! Both my Pilots started idling high when warm, so we decided to come home rather than spend the night. Leak down tests are on the schedule for them. Dave C. PICTURE: Pilotman. |
