Bob's Family Raceway Clarksville MI USA 07-17-05 It was the usual cast of characters, with one adddition, at Bob's last Sunday. SW Bill, AtvNut, Odypilots, welcomed Yousuke, odypilots' son in law. AtvNut let him run the extra 350. picture: l to r Yousuke, AtvNut, odypilots, and Sidewinder Bill.
The heat race is gridded by sign up, putting Bill on the inside, with odypilots, AtvNut, and Yousuke on the outside. Bill has really got the 'winder running good since his forced rebuild. His work on gearing has him taking the holeshot. We entered the first corner in a pack, with Yousuke and odypilots making a little contact. It was Bill, 'Nut, odypilots, with Yousuke pulling off with broken steering from the contact. picture: Heading out of turn 2. odypilots and Yousuke are on a collision course!
We stay in place for about 3 laps, with 'Nut making the first move with his patented "Jeff Davis" line (WAY inside!) out of the last corner. Bill fights back on the outside all the way around to turn 3, which allows me to get under him there. Bill, however, is a master at using the high line through 3 and 4, so it's not a done deal until we get to turn 5, where I complete the pass. I have a good run on 'Nut, so I try a outside move through 6, pulling even into 7 and 8, and take the lead down the main straight. AtvNut, isn't happy with 2nd, and pulls an outside in move in 1 and 2 that almost works. A few laps later, Bill passes "nut out of 8 and thats it for passing. finishing order; odypilots, SW Bill, AtvNut, Yousuke. picture: odypilots working the outside of turn 6 on AtvNut.
Back in the pits, it turns out that when we hit, the tie rod end pulled out of the knunckle on the right front. We didn't think we could do anything to fix it, then Dick took a look at it, and Yousuke was back in the main. Whata guy! picture: The best mechanic I know, Richard Dilley sits with odypilots' daughter and Yousuke's wife, Ashley.
At the start of the main, Bill again pulls the hole shot followed by AtvNut, Yousuke, and me. In a 3 wide exit of the last turn of lap 1, I sneak up the inside to pass Yousuke. SW Bill has the hammer down and is easing away from us, so I figure it's time to get past Jeff. He must have been figuring different. :) After a couple laps, I get next to him in 3, and here we go, side by side through the infield! picture: odypilots back on the outside of AtvNut, this time in the main.
I get a good drive out of 6, and finally take the spot. Bill is out there quite a ways, so I go to the whip. With 10 of the 14 laps to go, I think "Stay cool, and turn good laps". With 4 to go, I've caught him. Where to make my move? I'm pretty good out of the last corner, so when I get a good run out of there on him, I'm on the outside going into 1. I get the outside in move to work, and get next to him. picture: Here we go, down the back straight, with me on the inside into 3.
As I mentioned , Bill can work that outside and we arrive at turn 5, you guessed it, side by side, still! Bill runs it in too hot, and over rotates, climbing the inside berm. I'm through, and just run clean laps to the end, to take the win. Bill holds second, with Yousuke climbing up on AtvNut at the end. Jeff was up to the challenge, and held onto 3rd place. picture: SW Bill is about 2 seconds from a very bumpy ride here, over the inside berm.
We race at Imlay City, MI Friday, August 12th and at Bob's again on August 14th, with a test and tune day at Bob's the Saturday in between. We would love to see you there! Dave C. picture: odypilots, bringing it home.
