Bob's Family Raceway Clarksville MI USA 08-14-05 Page 1 of 2 We had a nice turnout of Off Road Lites with 11 cars. The usual racers, SW Bill, Roger O, Jeff Davis (AtvNut), and Dave Collins (odypilots-me) showed, along with the Spring Valley drivers of Dave Slifka (FL400nut) and Steve Hubbard (Odyknuck). Livewire's group included Steve Bishop (of course), Mike Bishop, Ron, Jim, and Norman. Bob ran us in 2 heats, with all cars transfering to the main. Livewire's group signed up last so they formed heat 2, with everyone else in heat 1. pic: The start of heat 1.
Heat 1 started with Dave S. taking the hole shot and leading into turn 3, where he slid up the track to give Steve H. a shot at the bottom. Through the infield they go, with Steve taking the lead headed into turn 7. Jeff makes a move on me out of the infield that I hold off going into the last turn of the first lap, with Bill and Roger going at it for 5th. I slide out a bit in 3 the next lap, and I collect Jeff , causing Bill to stall. I get settled down and set off after Dave S. One of the things I love about Bob's is there are 2 lines in all the corners but the last, so I go where Dave isn't, and get beside him out of 4 and take 2nd. Roger wants 4th from Jeff, but 'Nut holds him off. Jeff, in fact, catches Dave S. to take 3rd. pic: Steve H. leads, Dave C. wants to.
It takes me a few laps to catch Steve, and then I spend a few sizing him up. Steve, like Dave S., is a very controlled racer, so it's easy to feel comfortable running close to him. We go at it, me trying him here and there with no luck, when he slipped up a touch in 2, and I'm beside him. I have the bottom into 3, and claim the lead. Steve's not one to roll over when he's passed, though, and he stays in touch to the end. The results of heat 1: Dave Collins, Steve Hubbard, Jeff Davis, Dave Slifka, Roger Olmstead, and SW Bill. pic: Taking the lead.
Heat 2 has Steve B. taking the hole shot from Mike B., Norman, Jim, and Ron. Norman, in 3rd, is feeling his Cheerios, and starts pressuring Mike B. While they battle, Steve B. is disappearing into the distance. Jim and Ron have a nice race going on til Ron's machine starts acting up. Norman keeps up the pressure til Mike swings wide in turn 8, then takes 2nd heading up the main straight. pic: The start of heat 2.
Things settle down then, with Livewire continuing to stretch his lead to the checkered flag. I don't believe I have seen such a big lead at Bob's, and none of the machines out there were slouches. Well done, Steve! pic: Steve B. (Livewire) and Norman down the back straight.

The main is started in 2 rows, 6 in front and 4 in row 2. The reason it wasn't 5 and 5 is because the 11th car (Ron) didn't start, and we didn't feel it fair to bump a racer who had been told he was on the front row that, no, you're in the 2nd row now. The start has Mike taking the lead into 1. We were in a TIGHT pack as Dave S. brought row 2 up into the mix. Running 4th, I bicycle in turn 3 and get clipped. My hand bumps the kill switch and I'm dead. pic: The start of the main event.
The field does a good job missing me. By the time I figure it out, I am well behind. pic: The field headed into turn 3. this is where I go up on 2 wheels.
