Bob's Family Raceway Clarksville Michigan USA 08-06-06 Four cars showed for today's race, Dan and Jody, with the second generation ProtoDie cars, Duane, with a first generation ProtoDie car, and me (Odypilots), with a Pilot. pic: practice |

The 2nd gen cars are really running good, with gearing and suspension changes taking them beyond the capabilities of a modded Pilot. The full size cars that run at Bob's had done their usual tearing up of the track, so Jody was taking it easy in practice, and I was running hard, and was just keeping up with him. pic: Coming to the line for the start of the main. |

At Bob's, the grid in the heat race is set by signup, so I had the inside with Jody, Duane, and Dan outside. At the start, I got a good jump on Jody and thought I had the lead going into turn 1. I should have known better! Dan went by me just before the entrance to the corner, and Jody pulled even as the turn started. pic: Dan |

Starting down the back straight, he pulled away to do battle with Dan. And did they battle! One high, the other low, back and forth. The nice thing about Bob's is the multiple lines because of the infield turns. If you on the bottom line in one corner, it puts you on the high line in the next. Side by side they went! I had the best seat in the house, until they started pulling away. pic: Jody |

It went on until Jody's steering gear pulled apart, most likely from the hard running at SCR a few weeks ago. I got to do a little wheel to wheel with Duane as we lapped him. He had a new set of tires and more experience at Bob's and had a better run this time, his second race. pic: Odypilots |

The steering was easily fixed, so all cars looked to be set for the main. We pulled out for our 2 practice laps, and Duane engine died. It turns out his fuel was shut off, and once it stalled, it wouldn't restart. pic: Duane. Pull, pull, pull. Electric start sure would be nice! |

Dan had first pick because of his heat win, with me and Jody outside him. Dan takes the early lead, but Jody gets a good run through the infield to lead lap 1. And the battle is back on! With them running so tight, I'm able to stay in touch for 2 laps, but then Jody takes the lead, and they start to pull away. Dan gets to chase for a change. pic: Dan after his win. |

Jody hasn't got turns 7 + 8 down yet, though, and Dan starts reeling him in. Jody overcooks turns 3 + 4, and Dan is right on him. Another wide run through the last corner and Dan is into the lead. They stay close for a couple laps until Jody loops it in turn 8. Their race is over, but it has me thinking I may have a shot at Jody, but he settles down and I don't have anything for him. The final order is Dan first, Jody second, and me third, Duane dns. pic: A shot of a couple of the quads |
